                                                               Sewing is so much fun...

Well..it is spring break for our grandkids this week. Emily , Callie and I had so  many
plans .We were going to get together and have some "good ole sewing together"..
Plans do get changed!!! Cindy and Callie have been home sick all week, and bless
sweet little Emily 's heart...she has been taking good care of them!![She even cooked
supper for the family one night...she soon discovered a mama's job is tiring,ha]

SO...Maw has been sewing alone!!! I decided to make all 4 of the grandaughters a
dress. Once, I get them done and to each child. I will post pictures of  them..

Judy Won the Give Away Thread Catcher

I was so excited when I won the thread catcher give away at http://kjvjames117agg.blogspot.com/. Laura made this thread catcher. Please go to her blog and see the beautiful things she does.. She is such an
inspiration ..
I  just love it.. Instead of having to drag a garbage can close by to hold all my nips and bits of thread, I sit my thread catcher close by and it gets all the little threads.. So easy to take it from place to place for all your crafting and sewing projects..
Laura ,thankyou so much. I will treasure this special gift.

Colette Licorice Dress

Colette Licorice Dress with Colette Violet Sleeve

I made this dress for Cindy's Birthday [my daughter].Sorry the picture turned
out so badly..eeeh, I am no photographer,ha.
The dress was really simple to  make, I really liked the collar, I added piping to it
for a really cute additive. I used the sleeve pattern from the colette violet pattern.
Very Nice to sew something.. I have really missed it.

The Little Girl Who Loves Minnie Mouse

Minnie Mouse Dress and Doll Dress

I made this dress & matching doll dress , for  a specail little girl named Mia. She is turning
four years old. Happy Birthday Mia.

You see she loves the cartoon character Minnie Mouse.. So what better fabric than
this sweet minnie mouse print? The border is a red & white polka dot [since Minnie
is decked out in red & white polka dot.] I then added a black gross grain  ribbon
trim around it.

What fun to sew for the little ones!

Friendship

Lovely Package From a Sweet Friend

This week had  been a really rough week for Kenny.. He has been really sick
and we have spent alot of time  sleepless, worring, etc. But just knowing we have
our many friends and family praying for us , is such a blessing.. And so apprecaited.

When my day seemed so hard.....

I go to the mail box and what  a shocking surprise. My sweet, sweet talented
friend had mailed me a package across the world.[and she is sick ,herself!!].
As I tore into this package, The tears flowed. To think that   Rachel took the
time and made this lovely card. And added the sweet lace, and beautiful
buttons. And even added Kenny and I both a drink.. How thoughtful!!!
thankyou so much Rachel..  I will treasure my card for ever.

Update on Kenny's Surgery

I would like to thank all of you for your sweet prayers and concerns for Kenny and myself, during this back surgery.. It has been a rough week.. But your thoughtfulness, has meant so much.

Update:  We are home from the hospital.. Kenny has a long ,hard recovery period ahead of him, But we know with  all the prayers and concerns from our friends[and my sweet sewing friends].. He will be up and enjoying a  relatively normal life in a while.  Keep praying.. I look so forward to hearing from each of you.. I will update as often as I can.

UPDATE- 2/19/2012
Today has been a pretty rough day for Kenny..He is having alot of nausea..So hasn't been eating. I am sure the nausea is from all the medicine. The doctor called in some phenergan [nausea med] ...this seems to be helping.
Keep praying and know, I apprecaite your sweet comments and prayers ,as does Kenny.

UPDATE: 2/21/2012
This morning started out with a rough morning. Kenny woke with  alot of nausea, increased heart rate, and
pain.. He is very pale /ashy color. I gave him some phergan, and pain med. After 2 hours, he was still very sick. I got my oxygen out and  after a little while, he seemed to get a little better. He is napping in the recliner now. I pray that when he wakes up , he will feel better.
Please continue to pray. It is such a blessing to know  to know all the prayers are going up for him..
I know this is a sewing blog... but no sewing going on now.ha.

UPDATE: 2/27/12
What a wonderful thing to update..Kenny is so much better today.. We have had a long , rough few days.. He began to have muscle spasms and was so nauseated, he couldn't  eat anything. We ended up going to the ER on Saturday..  They started IV's and got the spasms to stop.
He is so much better today.  He is eating some, and they gave him medicine to help with the muscle spasms.. So hopefully..we are on our way to getting better and better.

We went to the sewing room, and she picked out fabric ,she wanted to use..  I cut them out for her.. I set my sewing machine to the slow speed, And Miss Callie  began to create the wonderful dresses for her baby.. Valentines Day Is Special..Why?

Kenny and I  are approaching another Valentines Day together. You see ,we have been married for 40 years. And we have seen some really good times and some really hard times.. I can't remember a Valentines day , going by , that I didn't get a box of Valentine candy.

Kenny is sick right now... and will be facing surgery on Valentines Day. This morning, he told me , he had to go to town.. Since, he has not really been out in the past few weeks ,due to his back troubles.I was shocked. I ask him, if he wanted me to drive for him..  He quickly replied," No. I need to do a few things."

When he arrived home, a short time later, with a pretty box of valentine  candy..He knew ,he wouldnt be able to on Valentines Day.. I felt tears dwell up in my eyes. This is what you call.. Love!!

Sewing..Why do you Sew?

Sewing....Is it for young people?? Is it for Old People? Is it for fun? Is it for better fitting clothes? What is your reason for sewing?

As I was pondering over this retro picture of a singer sewing machine, I thought about the area in which I live. There are very few sewers here. The interest is fading away.. Some will say, "only old ladies sew".  Some will say..It is only to mend our clothes.  Some will say...It is for making fun hobbies/crafts...Some will say...It is for making clothes that fit [because RTW doesn't fit]. Some will say... to be able to make modest clothes. Some will say... to make vintage dresses.

For me, I would say.... I learned to sew many years ago, when my sweet  daughter was a little baby.[She is now a high school history teacher.] My sweet husband went out and bought me a sewing machine. I could barely sew a straight seam.lol But , I taught myself, the basics. I made her tons of sun dresses. The same pattern over and over that summer..And I gradually made a dress with a sleeve, or a collar or a zipper, or buttons. I messed up a lot of garments. But, I kept on.. In those days, there  was no computer ,no sewing blogs, no sewing books [or I was too poor and too dumb to go to the library to find a book?]. I think the thing ,that kept me going ,was the  twirling and giggling of that little girl in her new found dresses. She was too young and sweet to notice the many imperfections of her Mama's learning dresses. And this sewing thing.. became my most treasured hobby..   I may go through down times and sit it aside for a few weeks..But ,it always comes back. And I am so proud to have this wonderful hobby..

Wizard of Oz

How Many Ways ...Can you do Wizard of Oz

How about a Pillowcase Dress [With embroidered shoes and 'It's no place like home"

Judy's Violet Colette Pattern - Dorothy Blouse
[Even  a grandma ..needs a little bit of the Wizard of Oz]

Emily Morgan [my sweet grandaughter] in her wizard of Oz  Dorothy fabric dress

Callie Noelle [my sweet gandaughter] in her Wizard of Oz Petal knot dress.
Don't  you just love the embroidered stick characters on this apron?

One of my favorite classic movies is..Can you guess? The wizard of oz. My oldest grandaughter Emily, had the great honor to play a munchin in our BLue Mountain College production of the Wizard of Oz. She was 9 yrs on at the time. Well ,her little sister , Callie was so upset, because she was too young to be cast in the play. So,  I had to make her a Dorothy dress to wear on opening night.[See Maw knows how to fix all hurts!! lol..] She got as much attention as  the college girl that was  playing Dorothy.  This dress was a  regular Dorothy dress with white blouse and all. I wish, I had a picture..But ,I couldnt find it.Take my word for it..She was adorable!! [now, doesnt that sound like a Maw?lol]
Since that beginning Dorothy dress.. I just keep making more of them.. Wonder what will come next?
