Memorial Day 2016

Have a blessed day..
                                    Happy Memorial Day..

Giving  thanks to the men and women who  have served our
Country to keep us safe. And the many lives that have been lost
for our freedom. May we never forget them.

Pray you and your family have had a wonderful day.
We two , had a quiet [working] kinda day..We worked in the             garden and flower beds.. But, we  did celebrate, in the
    afternoon.

    Menu:
    Steak [on the grill]
    Baked  Potato
    Salad
    Sister shubert Rolls
   Blue berry /Pineapple Crunch

The desert was wonderful.. Thought I would share this recipe
with you.. I got it from our local newspaper years ago.. So, do
not know, who to give credit to..Forget about the dieting today..smile.

Blueberry/Pineapple Crunch

1 [20 oz] can crushed pineapple[do not drain]
3 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
1 cup sugar
1 box yellow cake mix
1 stick butter
1 cup pecans chopped
Butter a 11 x 14 in pan. put pineapple [and juice] in it. then the blueberries. Sprinkle half the sugar on top of this. Pour dry cake mix on top.  Then drizzle  melted butter over this. Sprinkle with the rest of the sugar and pecans. Do not stir!!  Bake at 350 degrees for  45minutes.

This is really good warm with vanilla ice cream  on it.. But taste equally good the next day when cold.

NOTE: I halved this recipe , since it was just the 2 of us. I used a
7 x 9 in pan..

When You Love to Sew...and Loose Your Sewing Room...what do you do?

Sewing Nook in the Extra Bed Room
This is an OLD house..This bedroom had this
cut out in the corner..No one was sure what it
was for??  But.......... It was transformed into a
sewing nook..  My two little sewing tables fit
perfectly in that spot.Kenny built  the shelves
above  to hold books, patterns, and some accessories.
The wall next to it,  was just the right length  to
put my embroidery machine table and a book
case. The book case holds baskets for my sewing
stuff [zippers, buttons, elastic.. etc]

NOTE: click on photos to enlarge.. Shows much clearer.

This is the rest of the bedroom.. It's not
like having my big sewing room.. But.. when space is
limited... you find the little nooks work quiet well.smile!!

Fabric Stash... as you know, I have TOO  MUCH fabric..
When we made the decision, to make this house move.
I knew , I did not have room for my fabric stash..So,
I gave lots of it away.. I donated lots to Salvation army. I couldn't
bring myself to part with  the rest.. ha  The hall in this house,
has  a very wide/long hall. I used it  wisely.. Kenny built
a really big book shelf to hold my fabrics. [Isn't he sweet?]
I found the black/white fabric totes for $3 each. They fit
perfectly in the shelves. Plus I had a few extra shelves
to hold books ,etc.  PS---I will be doing post of  the rest of
the hall and how I used it...coming soon.

I will be doing post of the rest of our "little old house". Lots of work has been done...and there is lots of work to come.  I will
be sharing with you... the before's and the afters..

Happy Memorial Day to you and your family..

Our Life Has Changed.... Sorry for my Lack of Post

We have moved into our "New" old house. We are getting
settled.  There is still lots to get done, such as --- waiting on
the carport  to be brought out [nope , the old house does
not have an attached carport, and I REALLY miss this].

Waiting on the storm shelter to be put in..

We moved into a smaller house [2 bedroom].. So . fitting
everything , has been a challenge. We bought a storage
unit, so this past week, we took LOTS of stuff , and put
in there..Such as, seasonal clothes,  holiday stuff,etc..This
really helped.

We have been working on the  house for a year . We still need
to finish the new siding on the outside [parts of it or done]. Need
new windows .. All  of this will get done eventually, as
time permits.

I have done very little sewing. But, hope to get back to it,
real soon. I did make my grandaughters   a few summer
skirts..[will post photos of them soon]

I will be posting rooms in the house, and show you some
before and after9s..

Hope you all have been doing well.. Missed you.. So sorry,
I  did not post for such a lengthy time.  Hope your
having a nice summer.

Butterick 6214 --Judy's Sewing a Summer Top

Butterick 6214
Simple Summer Top
I bought this pattern awhile back, and really for got I had it.
I saw that SarahLiz had made it. Hers was really cute.

Check it out.
http://sarahlizsewstyle.blogspot.com/2016/01/this-week-two-things-happened-well-more.html

She told how quick and easy it was.[thank you Sarahliz]

I decided I needed a sewing fix, and this easy/quick top
was just the right idea. We are having winter here, but
it will be nice to have a new top when spring arrives.

I cut it out in this burgundy/purple paisley print
fabric.. [Not sure what type of fabric it is? It
feels like it is some type of rayon? Drapes well]
I have been sewing on it, and should have it ready
for photos tomorrow [if my camera fellow [hubby] is
available. ha]

Hope your having a wonderful  weekend..

Anchor Hocking Brand..
$39.00
So bland , after looking at the other ones.
ps... but the cake looks pretty..

Pioneer Woman Brand .
I love this one..but.......
it is no longer available on the wal mart sight,
so I went to ebay-- $125.00
OOPS...out of my budget too..

Looks like I will just have to keep looking and
wishing. ha  And using my old/trusty/ugly
Tubberware  gold bottom with cream top [I think
the top was white in its day[smile]. I have had it for
35 years..  It still holds the cakes quiet well, and
has served   a hungry hubby, and 2 growing children.
It has served me well.

I Love Polka Dots & Sewing pillows & Thrift Store finds

Don't you just love Polka Dots?
and red.. the absolute best color!!
Cindy bought me this baking dish and big bowl[cup]
for Christmas. I love them.. Too pretty to put away
in the cabinet.[smile]

Unusual  white ceramic canister , I found at the
thrift store - $2.99

When there is no time to sew.. Just embroider
your initial on fabric and make a pillow. Fun.
I was testing a monogram on my embroidery
machine, so  I used a color that Cindy has
in her sun room, and made her a quick sew/
easy sew pillow.

Cindy and I both have the last name start with an R..

Hope your having a good start to your new year.
Getting sewing or  organizing done.. And enjoying
the day..

2016 Goals for My Upcoming Year

Christmas is behind us.. It was fun and  I totally
enjoyed the decorating, cooking and the time spent with my family.  But now..........the decorations have been put away
for the year [but ... Christmas 2016 will be here before you know it. ha].It's time to   make some goals..

 Goals for 2016

1- Make my monthly budget and remember to follow it as closely as possible.

2-Organizing [I have my house up for sale, and are redoing an older house ,we will be moving in to-  So... I am on a standstill
with this goal.. as, I will have to get moved first] I am making plans for the other house .

3- Remember to do my monthly meal plans as this really helps with  grocery budget. "Try" to eat and feed my family healthier meals.

4- Remember to take the extra time to spend with my husband, children and grandchildren.. Time is going so fast, every minute with our family is so important..  I have to remind myself.... its ok, to leave the house or yard work for  a time.. It will be there, once you spend that hour or two with the ones you love.

5- My sewing goal this year is to ............. sew some things for me, and to sew some things for the house.. [curtains, cushions, etc]

6- Garden..... enjoy the spring..  and enjoy our garden and be thankful , that we have the place and the heath  to have it.

7- Thank God for our health and remember to always pray for the ones in need.

Hope you all have a wonderful  and blessed year.
