Fall Cleaning Finished-- Just in time For Thanksgiving

I have never done fall cleaning [always spring
cleaning].  I decided to give it a try  , after reading
on Pintrest  that It would make the  Thanksgiving
and Christmas busy schedule , so much better??
Now... all I have to do is "Maintain".

How Do You Maintain Your Home? And Upkeep
the  Work You Have Already Done??
This is some of my routine tips.

1- Always make my bed as soon as I get up.
Before  I leave the room..It takes 2-3 minutes.
This is  the best  tip I have ever done.. If you
don't get to go back in that room to tidy, it
still looks clean.

2- Empty the dishwasher first thing in the am.
This allows  you to put your dirty dishes in
it, during the day.[If you handwash dishes
during the day,, which I do ,on most days].
Be sure  to  put the dishes away. It keeps
your kitchen looking neat all day. Wipe
your counters and  applainces off when you
do the dishes.

3- Sweep or damp mop the floors each morning.

4- Laundry-  Wash  and dry  your laundry each day.
Or every other day . Never let the loads pile
up..Much easier to do 1-2 loads  than letting them
build up.

5-Dust  every other day [and daily if possible]

6-Menus -- Make a menu each week. Even if it
has to change some what.. This way, you know
what to take out of the freezer,  and what
preparations are needed for the day.. NOTHING
worse than supper time comes up, and you
have nothing planned, nothing thawed.. Eeeeh.

7-Nighttime routine--
When  I take a bath, before leaving the bath
room, I take lysol wipes and wipe off the
bathroom counter, commode, cabinets,etc.This
keeps the
bathroom looking clean  , until I do the big
cleaning.. and honestly if you do this every day,
there is no big build up to clean. And it only
takes a  couple minutes.

Last but not Least... 10 minutes before going to bed, I do a quick pick up  and put everything in its place.
I do a quick sweep of the main living area [living
room and kitchen].

Thanksgiving is almost here.. I have made my menu.
I have  shopped and bought all the ingrediants, I will
need.  I have cornbread cooked for the stuffing, I am
going to chop onions/celery ,etc and have in baggies.
I will bake the sweet potatoes for the casserole and
the sweet potato pie .[my son called today, to request
that. smile. All the little things we do ahead of time,
makes the  day go smoother.. And allows the  "Cook"
to enjoy some time with her visitors..

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Holiday
and  your plans go well..

  1. Wonderfully helpful post! I probably should do a little deep cleaning, too. So busy this fall, I am having trouble fitting things in.
    Blessings for a happy Thanksgiving,

  2. I love your new look Judy! Great tips to help maintain your fall cleaning. The only thing I can't do is make up the bed too much because the husband is still in there when I get up! I started Fall cleaning a couple of weeks ago when I saw you doing it. Not as big as regular Spring Cleaning but it helps! Have a great Thanksgiving!

  4. Sounds like you are all ready for Thanksgiving! How nice to have all the fall cleaning done! I've made good progress, but have a little more to go. Prepping and cooking a much as you can ahead of time will be a real time-saver on the day. Are you preparing the whole meal or are others bringing dishes?

  9. Thank You-Thank You-Thank You for posting this. I really need these cleaning tips in my life. I am so unorganized about my day and great intentions end up in a pile at the bottom of my unmade bed. lol. I usually let stuff go and then it becomes unmangeable. I am definitely printing this out--it's easy and not overwhelming. Happy Thanksgiving Sew Blessed Maw!

    1. Hi Robin, thank you for stopping by the blog.. I love the organizing tips on the blogs.. It helps me to stay focused and I learn so much from other's ideas. Hope some of these will be useful for you.
ps Try the making the bed idea.. It really works.. I timed myself about 2 yrs ago, and it took about 2 1/2 minutes.. So when I wake up, I tell myself, "just do it!! It only takes a couple minutes." Then I am so happy , when I leave and its done.lol
Hope you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving.

  10. Great going, Judy! I find that I really enjoy Fall cleaning - it's nice to have things decluttered and clean and ready to add Christmas decor. Also, the milder outside temps make it so much easier to do exterior window cleaning, etc. Enjoy your Thanksgiving - you're all set!

  11. Judy. Your hints are well thought out. Especially appreciate the reminders to keep the dish washer either clean AND empty, or keep up w/ the hand dishes. Tidy-clean the bathroom at night is new to me. I like that!! I will prechop my veggies for stuffing. Good plan.
Do you look as bushed-out as the picture? Hope not. Is that a zippered front house dress she is wearing?! D

    1. yep... i feel about that bushed out.hahahhaha And I just bet that is a front zipped dress.lol
I just started the little bathroom tip. I read it on Pintrest. But, it is amazing how well it works. The bathroom looks like you just cleaned it , all the time..
Hope all is going well, and your getting all the Thanksgiving stuff done. Have a happy and blessed week.
