Glass Cake Stand--- I want one!!!

Martha Stewart Brand.. Beautiful but out of  my budget
$179.00
Don't you just love the  scallops on it.. So white and clean.
Anchor Hocking Brand..
$39.00
So bland , after looking at the other ones.
ps... but the cake looks pretty..

Pioneer Woman Brand .
I love this one..but.......
it is no longer available on the wal mart sight,
so I went to ebay-- $125.00
OOPS...out of my budget too..

Looks like I will just have to keep looking and
wishing. ha  And using my old/trusty/ugly
Tubberware  gold bottom with cream top [I think
the top was white in its day[smile]. I have had it for
35 years..  It still holds the cakes quiet well, and
has served   a hungry hubby, and 2 growing children.
It has served me well.

  2. Oh, that cake stand is pretty! I love the scallops on the bottom! I used to have a glass cake stand with a glass top, nothing fancy- I think I got it at walmart when we were first married. It lasted quite a while and I used it often but somehow the glass top part broke and I cant recall whatever happened to the bottom part. A cake stand is one of those things that are on my running list of "things I want to get one day" haha. I have gone to Goodwill a few times in the last several months and I often browse the housewares section. I think if I ever see one- fancy or not- I'll probably scoop it up since I found it so useful to have one in the past. And yard sales might be another good place to search for one. You just never know what some people get rid of. :)
My grandmother used to have a beautiful crystal cake stand that had a large flat bottom (like a plate.) I recall that when you turned the bottom part upside down you could use the flat bottom plate as a vegetable tray. Another way to use that one she had was to place the knob of the top glass part inside the center of it (invert the whole stand) and use it as a fruit/punch bowl. It was pretty neat- I'd love to get one that has a multi purpose like that. :)

  4. We have a glass one and a plastic one (that locks and has a handle). No one opts for the plastic one ever! :) If any of us bakes it's going in the glass stand!! Hopefully you get one soon.

  5. Lovely! I've seen them here without the glass top, for about $30, and everything here is 10x the price it is over there so don't give up. I have a real thing for those tiered stands for little cakes and have a few of those - although like my cake stand they are mostly strewn around the shop displaying haberdashery items!

  7. oooh..the scallops are lovely.. I have an old glass one, not sure where it came from, maybe Mom? She often found things she wouldn't use, but thought I would need. Even my grandma bought me a metal pan that baked checkerboard cakes, really...again, she thought I needed one...gave it to a daughter-in-law who thought she would use it. You can borrow my stand anytime...D

  8. I am sure, now you know what you want, that one day you will find something similar, because you are now looking for something specific. You may even find it in a thrift store. And, I should think everyone loves your old container -many memories of happy cooking shared.

  9. I have two, one domed one over a flat fancy plate, and one tall one. Both were purchased at flea markets or estate sales for around $15. I use them constantly when I bake cakes and cupcakes for family gatherings because you don't have to use toothpicks or anything to hold up saran wrap when covering them. I love how easy it is to keep the baked goods fresh, so we use it on a regular basis, even though it's "fancy." I also had a Tupperware one at some point, and that is handy if traveling with the cake---but I never seem to use it anymore.

    Good luck finding one reasonably!

  10. I have 2 of them that were purchased for around $15 long ago at a flea market or estate sale. We use them frequently since they keep cakes and cupcakes fresh without using the toothpicks/plastic wrap method I used to use--a real pain!

I have a Tupperware for if I'm taking a cake to a family party or something, but can't remember the last time I used that one.

I hope you find one soon for a reasonable price.

  11. A domed cake stand is very elegant. I'd keep looking at yard sales and thrift stores. In the meantime, if you want just a stand (without the cover), you'll see lots of ideas on-line of stands made from glasses or candle holders and plates, as well as wooden ones and terra cotta ones. I don't have a cake stand, but now you have me wanting one! LOL.

  12. The scalloped stand is beautiful! Hoping you find one you like at a price you like as well. I have the plain clear glass dome and use it on a white ironstone pedestal cake stand base. Works really well. :)

  15. You know, half the fun is the hunt! I only have the bottom, cake stand with no cover that I found at a thrift store. It really does dress up a cake! I agree with everyone's comments, yard sales and garage sales plus flea market season is right around the corner! I'm sure you find the perfect cake stand with a dome at the right price!
