What I am Doing in this New year/New Month.. Sewing & Cleaning Routine

January 2017... My  goals [not resolutions- 💗😤]
are to get back to sewing..  The hobby , I love sew
much... And to improve my organizing /cleaning
techniques.  I thought I would share whats been
                 done thus far this year..

Sewing... for Emily's Mission & Emily

3 more Pillowcase Dresses for Emily's Mission
Emily will be taking dresses to the little girls
in the Children's Home.

NOTE: Click on photo to enlarge it ..You
can see it better.
I am also making Emily a valentine vintage
dress. She picked out the red/white polka dot
fabric [from my stash] . I am working on it
now.. It is a slower process, as she is in school,
and I have to wait upon her visits, to  get fitted,
etc. Lots of fun.. Hope to share this soon.

Decluttering.. Organizing..  Cleaning

What is your routine? Do you have one? Do you
wait until  a certain day , and have an "all day"
cleaning, or do you ?-- do a little each day? I don't
think there is a right way or a wrong way?? Just
what ever works for you... For me. I try to keep
things decluttered.. And just maintain a tidy house.
If I do a little each day, it is just about always
presentable.. Here are a few of my  regular
1- Making the bed, when I first get out of it.. I use to
not do this.. But, It is so quick and so easy [and a
habit that I have adjusted to..] It makes the room
appear clean , and for me, it encourages me to  put
everything away [only takes seconds to put things
away..versus laying them on the bed/dresser,etc.]

2-Only  touching  things ONE time.  Found this  hint
on Pintrest. Such a time saver..When coming in, take
coats, purses, bags, etc to the place they go. Do not
leave them on the back of a chair, table ,etc-- to deal
with later/thus having to handle them a second time.
Remember the one touch rule for all things that enter
your house.. and if you don't leave things laying
around... your house will not look  untidy.. smile

3- Mail/paper items... Oh my.. my mail man brings me
handfuls of junk mail every day.. eeeeh!!!   When it
comes through the front door, I immediately go
through it, and toss all the junk mail. I put bills
and stuff that need filing  in a specified place.
Then file and pay bills as needed. This tip, has been
a life saver for  the messy looking paper work everywhere.

4-  Laundry.. This is not as difficult for me now, as
it was when we had children at home.. I do a load of
laundry as soon as I have one.. Usually, I do  a load every
other day..  Hint... I always fold/hang put away as soon
as I finish.. Remember the one touch rule.. Always
finish.. only touch once. smile

5-I call this hint--- making my footsteps count!!! As I
walk from one room to another.. I take a quick look
around, If I see any item that belongs to another
room or area, I take it with me and return to its
location. I have done this so long... it is just habit, and
I  don't even think about doing it. But, it really helps
to keep the  house tidy ..[with no extra work]

6- Kitchen duties--- No. I don't like to wash dishes or
clean the kitchen after we eat.. It has to be done.. And
there is nothing more rewarding than walking into a
clean kitchen, when you awake in the am.. I  run a dish
pan of soapy water, and clean as I go.. After supper,
I go and put the  dishes in the dishwasher or I hand
wash? I wipe off cabinets.  hint-- set the timer and
see how long it actually takes.. Once you see , how
quick it motivates you to , just do it. smile

7-  Touch ups...  I love the clorox wipes..  I do a quick
wipe down of bathroom sink, top of tolit and lids. this
keeps the bathroom looking tidy and keeps your
tolit  from getting really BAD... When I do my real
bathroom cleaning.. it is not really bad and disgusting..

8- End of day..5 to10 minute pick up--- Before going
to bed,  I do a  quick pickup .. Magzines out, blankets, etc.
I do a quick sweep of the living room , kitchen and hall.
This is the best hint of all... as it ensures you that you
start tomorrow with a tidy house.. and if you have that
unexpected visitor pop in.......... everything is ok..

This sounds like a lot of work.. But, once you get the house cleaned, and  get these habits established, it only
takes minutes to do each.. And your work load is cut
down so much.. When you do your major cleaning,it
is so much easier.

Hope you have a wonderful day.. Hope your enjoying yourFirst month of the New Year.. God bless.

  1. Thank you Laura.. I really am so proud of Emily.. And feel honored to help her with this mission that she loves so much. God opens doors for us.. if only we remember to see it.[I have a problem of not listening and looking for His call.]
    Have a blessed week

  2. Great tips! I like the thoughts of clean kitchen in the morning too- dirty dishes can make for a bad morning. I'm usually the first one out of the bed so the bed doesn't get made up right away. Sometimes never! My husband worked second shift for a long time so I've become used to it. Have a great day!

    1. Thank you Vickie.. Yep.. I understand the different shift thing.. When hubby and I were working, we worked opposite of each other.. so no bed making then.ha
      Have a great day.

  3. Love all the dresses you are making for Emily's mission and for Emily, too.

Love your organizing/cleaning routines, too. I really need to get back to my routines!

    1. Thank you BLess.. I am enjoying sewing for Emily's mission.. Such a good cause.
Routines really help me to stay "semi" You have to remember , you have been through a lot this year.. You do more sick than most do when they are

  4. What will Emily be doing and where? My sewing machine that I ordered never arrived, and I forgot about it until I saw that they issued me a refund without explanation. Oh well.

    1. Danielle, so sorry about you not getting your sewing machine.. Maybe you will get another one, one day..
Emily is in high school, and will start college this fall.. [she was in college for classed during this past summer too.. A rural medical scolarship she got] . She discovered a childrens home close to the college she is attending. They are not state funding.. They do all the money raising themselves.. And take care of these children. Emily wanted to give every little girl there a new dress.. So we sewed and she delivered them .. She wanted to return there and take them a dress this spring..So my DIL and myself are sewing for her.
Hope you and Annalise are doing well..

    2. I forgot to say what a remarkable girl Emily is! She is so caring for doing this for these girls. They will always remember!

    3. That's amazing. You must be so proud of her.

  5. I hope you get back to sewing this year as well - you have had so many awkward things to do over the last few years with downsizing. As for cleaning routines, looks like you have got into a good one that works for you.

    1. Thank you Sarahliz.. I am happy to be sewing.. I am working on the dress for Emily, and also have a blouse on the cutting table for me.. So hopefully this year, will be a sewing year.

  6. Goodness me, I am untidy and busy so I have a friend come clean once a fortnight. MrC and I share out the rest, although he mostly responds to requests rather than noticing things.

    1. ha,ha Maryanne.. Had to laugh at 'MrC mostly responds to request rather than notice things".. This is so true, at my house too.
You are a busy lady and have lots to do.. I think you are doing fantastic.. Hugs and have a great week.

  7. This is such a helpful post. I just loved all of your habits and routines in keeping your house presentable. You are such a blessing to all of us. Thank God for you, and may He bless you abundantly, sweet friend. :)

    1. THank you so much Cheryl. You are a blessing too, and I appreciate your prayers. God is good, how would we make it with out Him?
      Have a blessed week.

  8. As Sarah Liz have said, hope you get back to sewing this year. Great tips, thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank you Hana.. I am so enjoying sewing again.. I have done several pieces in January.. and hope to do the monthly challenges too..
      Have a great week.

  9. So happy to meet you today Judy! I loved your helpful cleaning tips. I find myself doing many of the same things you do (and didn't know it was called the one-touch method), lol!

It is so wonderful what you and your daughter are doing, making all those dresses for the girls. What a great idea, a pillowcase dress!

Hugs to you today, with a dash of snow from Idaho :)

  10. Marilyn.. thankyou for coming by.. Happy to meet you.[I can't remember who told me it was the 'one-touch method...". But it works.ha
The mission for the little dresses, is such a wonderful blessing for us.. Emily is my granddaughter..[She will be 18 in May..]..
Your snow looks beautiful.. Have a blessed day.

  11. Your goals are so inspiring! Thank you for sharing them. I am just trying to stick to my routines this year, to make them second nature. Your dresses are beautiful!

    1. Thankyou Dianna. I think the routine of our everyday chores are easier, once they become a habit..[That way, you do it before you have time to dread]
      Have a great day.

  12. This is a great post and very worthy of sharing. I think there are lots of us that need help in the area of coming up with a routine and help organizing. I would love for you to come over and link at the January Party. It's over here:
Check out the party and link your posts. There are giveaways too!

  13. What cute dresses and love the trim! The girls are going to be so happy!

Your plans sound ambitious, however after repetition, you'll breeze through the list. I'm trying to get on a schedule of sorts, and its working however being discipline is my problem.

  14. Thank you Diane.. [Does the fabrics of the dresses, look familiar? Thank you so very much.. You are a blessing, and the girls will thank you too, I am sure.]
Oh my Diane...discipline is SO my problem too.. It will be 9:30 pm and I will think...ummmh... I could just skip the 10 minute sweep and pick up tonight..It's not so bad!! But.. I have to keep reminding myself.. One skip not so bad, but the habit will get broken.. and I will return to the old

  16. I love the dresses, they're so cute. Thank you for all the wonderful cleaning tips. I love the idea of keeping the clorox wipes handy and using them daily verses pulling out cleaners and paper towels, etc. I'm going to have to try this. Enjoy your weekend!

  17. Hi Judy! I've been having trouble replying to your sweet comments on my blog and thought I'd come here to let you know. I keep getting my emails to you returned and it says "address not found." Just didn't want you to think I was ignoring your comments. :) I just tried again and it wasn't able to be delivered to you. Maybe blogger is having problems. Anyway, hope you're doing well! xoxo

    1. Thank you for letting me know.. I went and changed my email address.. Hope that helps..

  18. Hi Judy, have you changed your e-mail? Anytime I try to respond, my e-mail gets bounced back. That's after hitting reply to your comment. Is anyone else having this problem?

    1. Hi Kelly.. I went and changed my email address.. I thought it was already done, but maybe not?? Try it now..maybe, it will work?/ thanks for letting me know.

  19. I finally got my new sewing machine! Any suggestions for what to make first?
