How do you dress for household chores?[Like June Cleaver?]

Look how nice she looks.. she just did breakfast and
packed the boys lunches and  is getting them off to school!

Love this dress!

Even with troubles ... look how organzied..

Mom is perfect host to her sons and his friends. Doesn't she look nice?
I was watching an episode of  Leave it to Beaver this morning. I was admiring the beautiful dresses that  June Cleaver wore each day.. As she worked around the house [in her beautiful dresses, high heels and pearl necklace].

As I watched it, I wondered?????????? How do you dress for house cleaning chores?  Well. I can tell you, I don't wear high heels and pearl necklaces.ha  I normally will wear an old comfortable t-shirt and shorts or jeans. Hair pulled back in a pony tail..  [And I can tell you.... I would have to run to the back of the house and change clothes and comb my hair,  if you knocked on the door.ha]

I would love to  have all the wonderful dresses she wore in these shows !!!  Did you also notice, the house is in perfect order, the kids always are neat and in order!!! Is this tv or what??

  1. Have a feeling that 'Fairy-land' and 'TV-land' are interconnected!!! No diamonds and glitz for me at housecleaning hour - it is back to the 'good-old-daggies'...

  2. Well, I came across this very question this morning; my repro 40's housedress or my ratty old tshirt and pj bottoms 3 times too big. In the end the modern day trashy clothes won out because I wanted to wear my housedress afterwards while baking a birthday cake and listening to The Andrew Sisters! The solution is that I have to make MORE housedresses so I can have 'dirty work' dresses and 'looking good work' dresses.

  3. I don't have kids so I'm not sure but I imagine it's hard to keep them, the house and oneself clean tidy. If I clean the house in the morning or weekends it's on my pijamas and my hair in a ponytail too... If its in the evening it's on what I'm wearing or a track suit...

    1. Rachel,
I have to tell you on my self.. When the kids were living at home..I would fuss at them, and accuse them of making messes..It was "all their faults!". Well, they both left home, and on one but Kenny and Me at home.. and it still gets messy..[SO, now I have to blame it on poor ole Kenny...even when he's not here.hahahhaha
BTY.. I can see you cleaning house with your pj's on, hair in a pony tail..and still looking beautiful!!!

    2. you are making me laugh again Judy.... my Uncle used to tell me off for saying I was sweating, he would say "horses sweat, men perspire, ladies glow", tee hee, so when you are cleaning you can't sweat, you must glow!

  5. Do you know I have always wanted a proper wrap house coat, something that evokes 40s or 50s London or Northern England (so sorry just what truthfully comes to mind) scrubbing the doorstep kinda thing. I may even get round to making one seeing as Arthur has learnt a new word with my new found love 'housework'!!!

  7. I hate to say this but I'm a cross between a cartoon character and a very sloppy individual when it come to cleaning...kind of like I rolled out from under a rock! So new ideal housewife here, no pearls, certainly no high heels, and as for that dress...umm no.
